About Us
JL Clothing Support is a charity with a mission to provide free clothing alterations to those who need it most. Founded by mother and daughter duo, Evelyn (Lyn) and Joanne (Jo), this charity is dedicated to ensuring people feel confident in their own clothes after extended stays in hospital or if they have a long-term health condition that causes their weight to fluctuate or change dramatically. With Lyn’s expertise in tailoring and Jo’s medical knowledge, they bring a unique perspective to their charity work. Together, they are committed to making a difference in the lives of those who need it most.

Our Story
JL Clothing Support is a charity run by mother and daughter duo, Evelyn (Lyn) and Joanne (Jo). Lyn was diagnosed with Primary Biliary Cholangitis in 2006 which progressed to her needing a liver transplant. Unfortunately due to complications, Lyn had 3 liver transplants in a 9 month period, and consequently she lost a lot of weight. Through her hospital stay, Lyn's daughter Jo supported her and bought her new clothes though these didn’t quite feel like her own. Lyn, being a tailor, felt ashamed to be wearing clothes that did not fit. She lost her confidence and her dignity. Luckily, Lyn was able to alter her own clothes so she could feel like herself again, but we know not everyone is as fortunate to have the equipment, skills or finance to get their clothes altered. This led to the idea behind JL Clothing Support. The charity offers free alterations to people who have experienced similar situations and need a little help to find their confidence again.
